Breeders List

Current List of NFRS Registered Breeders and their Varieties

Introduction

The below list provides details of NFRS members who are registered as rat breeders and have requested to be included in this list. This list is not a recommendation by the NFRS of any stud or rattery as the NFRS is not in a position to check or vet any of its breeders. The NFRS committee cannot accept any responsibility for the breeders and buyers who use this list as in many cases they do not know the individuals concerned. Please ensure you have asked plenty of questions of the breeder if you have specific requirements in any area. All NFRS registered breeders are expected to sell their kittens within the NFRS guidelines for selling kittens. NFRS members can advertise and find adverts for available kittens on our Members Forum.

You may find that you have to wait a while to find the particular kittens you are looking for, because most breeders will plan litters so they do not become overrun with babies. If a breeder is not local to you, it may be possible to arrange for assistance in transportation via other breeders or to shows. You may find some breeders will consider rehoming retired breeding rats if you are happy to take on older rats with a more known and reliable background than rescues.

Entries are listed by area and then alphabetical order of surnames. Please note that breeding is not a business and as such, it may take a little time for breeders to respond to enquiries.

Rats are social animals and it is therefore necessary to keep them in groups of two or more of the same sex. Kittens should not leave the breeder until they are at least six weeks old, but it is advisable to separate doe kittens from bucks between 4-5 weeks to avoid unwanted pregnancies. The price of a kitten is usually between £10-£40 but is at the breeder’s discretion.

NFRS guidelines on selling rats can be found here: General guidelines for Selling Rats.

For more information on the NFRS Accolades scheme, please visit NFRS Show Accolades.

Like all animals, rats can occasionally carry infections transmissible to humans. Therefore we recommend that all people thinking about getting rats as pets read the following guidance: Reducing the risk of human infection from pet rodents - PDF or Reducing the risk of human infection from pet rodents - HTML.

All information is held on the Breeders List in accordance with GDPR and our Privacy Policy.
