Guidance Notes

Dogs at Shows

Issued 23rd April 2024

The NFRS welcomes well behaved dogs, provided that the show secretary has agreed beforehand and the venue allows. Some venues do not allow dogs.

However many rats are not happy around dogs so you must keep your dogs away from the rats at all times, especially when the rats are being prepared prior to benching when many rats are liable to be out of their cages. If possible, dogs should only enter the venue after benching has taken place.

Dogs must not be allowed inside the judging area at any time.

All dogs should be crated or on a lead. They should not be allowed to wander around the hall, even with their owners.

It is advised not to bring dogs that can be unsettled or excessively bark around strangers or other animals, if you do bring a dog and there are issues, you will be asked to remove the dog from the venue.

No dogs are permitted if vaccinated for kennel cough within the last 14 days and if you know or suspect that your dog has had kennel cough the same restriction applies.

All owners are fully responsible for their dog at all times and must clear up after them, even if this is outside the hall.

The NFRS reserves the right to refuse any dog, at any time.
